Nigel Patrick Bonello
I have been a practicing Audiologist for over 17 years and have worked for HearingLife for 12 years at the metropolitan West Lakes clinic and I visit Whyalla in regional SA, once a month. I was an established medical researcher in the years prior, during which time I had 11 international journal publications, presented at numerous national and international symposia and was twice the South Australian finalist in the Australian Society of Reproductive Biology’s junior scientist awards. I then realised I wanted to assist others more directly and immediately through clinical work, so shifted my focus ‘up the body’ to ears and hearing, and in 1999 was 1 of 6 who completed Flinders University’s inaugural Masters of Audiology degree.
Now one of Adelaide’s most experienced rehabilitative Audiologists, and with my special interest in presbycucis (age-related hearing loss), I take pride in maximally improving my clients’ hearing ability. My other great passion is audiological education and having completed my own Doctorate of Audiology in 2014. I have also been involved with the hearing health training of general practice nurses, aged care staff, the hearing conservation of farmers, and I am an established clinical supervisor of Audiology Masters students and newly graduated Audiologists throughout their entire intern year.
I have been a fully accredited Audiometrist for almost 25 years after following my father into the industry in 1993. I helped run the family Audiometry practice for more than 17 years, gaining significant skills and experience across different hearing devices and rehabilitation services along the way. I recently joined HearingLife (and ADHS) in 2015, and as one of the most experience clinicians I enjoy using my expertise to help my clients gain improved hearing with the latest technology, better communication with family and friends, and a more enjoyable and fulfilling lifestyle through better hearing.
