My name is Cherie Gomez and I work for Hearing Life. I have worked for Hearing Life for 12 years and have been an clinical audiologist for 18 years. I have always had an interest in health sciences and had just completed a science degree and started working in a medical laboratory. During this time I began volunteering my time at the Royal Institute for Deaf and Blind Children in Sydney and this is where my passion for Audiology ignited. The experiences and interaction with the teachers, deaf children and children of deaf adults led me back to University to complete a Masters Degree in Audiology where I was awarded the Phonak audiology prize. The field of audiology appealed to me because I love helping people achieve a better quality of life and the role involves constantly changing technology and professional development. “There is nothing more rewarding than seeing a hearing impaired person’s social and psychological wellbeing improve as a result of their hearing improving”.
